Ben T Davis Beach is a small narrow stretch of beach that sits just along the Courtney Campbell Causeway. While not actually a beach, the sand however does provide a place for those not wanting to travel to the gulf beaches. If you don’t have the time to travel to Clearwater or St. Pete beach this is a nice little place to try.
Over the years, the city has done as much as it could to renovate and improve the area. Many say it’s their favorite little secret spot or that its a cute little beach that located to some places to eat. Ben T Davis does have a nice little trail for those who enjoy running.
Ben T Davis Beach is not a beach
The sand on the beach does tend to have a lot of broken shells mixed in, so be careful and wear shoes if at all possible. For the most part, its more like a park/recreational space than a beach. It really doesn’t compare to the other beaches here in the Tampa Bay area. Bacteria levels are high, therefore, you are not allowed to swim in the water here. To be honest, the water is dirty and a little murky.
However, you will find metered parking, restrooms, covered picnic tables, concessions, and a volleyball area. Moreover, if you like grilling there are grills available for those who like cooking out. If you have small kids and are looking for some quiet time with the family, this isn’t the place. On the weekends and during the summer Ben T Davis Beach can be very crowded and looks more like one be crowd or party.
A visitor favorite is the four mile trail that was mentioned earlier. The trail allows you to walk, run or bike. Whiskey Joe’s, Bahama Breeze, Rusty Pelican and Big Bamboo Bayside are just a few of the restaurants nearby. While it’s not a top ten beach it is still worth giving a try if you are nearby.
