West Tampa cigar factory has the approval needed to be converted to a boutique hotel. The plans were first brought to attention back in 2016. Balbin Bros., based out of Louisiana, filed a request with the city seeking approval to rezone the project that would turn the Cigar Factory at 1202 N. Howard Ave. into a four story 70 room boutique hotel.
Though the original plans for the redevelopment went public in 2016, the city council will be holding a hearing on December 12, 2019 for the rezoning request. The rezoning would cover the 26,000+ square foot factory and to vacant parcels of land.
The factory was originally built in 1904 and used as a cigar factory. It was purchased in last 2016 for just a little over $1.4 million per the Hillsborough County Property records. More and more investors are moving to the booming Tampa Bay market.
