Are you looking for fun cheap things to do in Tampa? Let’s face it, whether you live in or near Tampa or are just visiting from someplace else you don’t always want to or have money to spend. Sometimes we all want to know that there are things that we can do that are cheap and still fun. Tampa has a lot of attractions and while many of them do tend to cost a few bucks there are several things that are great options and fillers.
Tampa is located on the west coast of Florida and is apart of the Bay area that includes St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and of course Tampa. There are lots of beautiful parks, beaches, history and culture all at your fingertips.
1. Horse Power for Kids & Animal Sanctuary
Great place to spend time with family and friends if you love animals. This animal sanctuary has everything from farm animals to exotics. Here you will find livestock as well as have the opportunity to get pony rides, train rides, hayrides and even horseback riding. Do all of this on a wonderful farm setting. They are only open Thursday through Sunday. Great place for a birthday party and go zip-lining.
2. Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Wonderful and historic Catholic church that offers Daily Mass. Considered one of the most beautiful churches throughout Tampa. The stain glass windows are simply amazing and the church and so are the stained glass and pipe organ that sits in the balcony. Many will say that that this church is will worth the time to come over and visit.
3. Tampa Theatre
Want to really go back in time? Checkout this 1926 movie palace that still plays the Wurlitzer organ before shows. Very intriguing for some while others may think its overwhelming. The art is amazing and there are just too many things to write about. Take a backstage tour, view a classic movie or even one of the silent pictures. The Tampa Theatre is a fun cheap thing to do in Tampa on any weekend!
4. Sunshine Skyway Bridge
Looking for something fun and amazing for the family! Visiting the Sunshine Skyway Bridge is a great way to take your mind off the troubles and calm down. The views are just breathtaking! There are rest area, kayaking, fishing, and great places for picnics. The bridge itself is an amazing piece of architecture and views of the water on both sides is just simply amazing.
5. Lettuce Lake Regional Park
Lettuce Lake Park is a 240 acre site that first opened in 1982. It has quickly and successfully become a hub of activities. If you are looking for a place that has just a little something for everyone in the family this is one you should consider. From wooded picnic areas and playgrounds to bicycle paths and jogging trails. A real true natural part of America that offers beauty you just cant beat. Only $2 parking and you will have to opportunity to see fish, birds, gators, and more.
6. TECO Line Streetcar System
There have been a lot of BIG changes to the streetcar hours and now the FREE price has really have a great impact on Ybor City. The TECO Line Streetcar System is a 2.7 mile line serving most of the dining and entertainment destinations in Ybor, Channel District and the Downtown Tampa area. Park someplace and take the trolly where you need to go, no need to pay for parking.
7. Henry B. Plant Museum
The Henry B. Plant Museum was once the Tampa Bay Hotel and now its a place that focuses on the hotel’s role during the Spanish American War. Many say the building alone is worth the trip as it has a wing that has some of the original furniture. The museum offers a very educational and fun filled afternoon. Here you will be able to step back in time and get a glimpse of Tampa’s history.
8. Hyde Park
Hyde Park is located in the SoHo area of downtown Tampa. A historic part of town that is filled with homes from the 20th century. Here you will find plenty of free and paid parking, unique shops, restaurants, and a theater. Whether you come during the afternoon or even there is plenty to do and explore. These quaint neighborhoods are walkable with upscale stores and places to just sit, eat and drink coffee.
9. Tampa Riverwalk
There is just so much to say about Tampa Riverwalk. This is a downtown Tampa gem! Riverwalk is great for people who work during the week and a fun place for all on the weekends! Whether you want to go out for a jog or a romantic stroll in the evening. Located just along the Hillsborough River you will find beautiful parks for kids to play and lots of grassy areas for picnics. Winterfest, concerts, exhibitions and more! Go to dinner, walk to a theater or go on a boat cruise.
10. Cigar City Brewing
Since its inception, Cigar City Brewing has been dedicated to creating beers people like to drink and toasting to those who choose to drink with them. The very first batches of Cigar City beer was released in 2009. It was in the Top 10 Breweries in 2016. They have a great tasting room, wonderful vibe, and very cool merch. Be sure to take the brewery tour enjoy a few beers and enjoy your time.
11. Armature Works
Also known as the Heights Public market, Armature Works is known as a food lovers dream. Located just along the river the 22,000 market features an open plan with plenty to eat. There a lot of cute little specialty shops, yummy food spots and a wine bar.
12. Water Works Park
Waterworks Park is a great little public park that sits along the Hillsborough River. There is a playground, shaded area, picnic area, and a splash pad. Children love playing in the water fountains and sprayers.
13. Yuengling Brewery
This is a great FREE tour that offers guests free samples as well! The tour of the Yuengling Brewery allows visitors to get education on the process it takes to make a beer and the history of this family owned brand. It is the oldest brewery in America so be prepared to learn a lot. Be sure to reserve your tour in advance to make sure you get the time you want are you be sitting waiting. But hey, at least you can sample the beer while you wait!
14. Wat Mongkolrata Temple
What’s not to like at the Wat Mongkolrata Temple? From the amazing selection of authentic Thai food to the outdoor picnic area. This is surely a place to put on your to do list while in Tampa. The temple is just beautiful and the grounds are not only peaceful but well manicured. You will find a lot of people there and everything is made fresh on site.
15. Glazer Children’s Museum
The mission at the museum as always been to create a learning environment where children can play, learn, discover and connect. No adults are allowed if they are not with children. Fun for all ages and it is located right along the river so be sure to check out Riverwalk when you are done.
16. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park
This park puts you right in the middle of everything downtown has to offer. It is in the middle of The Tampa Museum of Art, Glazer Children’s Museum, Straz Center and more. Children can play at the park and you are just a few steps away from your next event. You will always find events on the weekends such as yoga classes, foodie events, concerts, art festivals and more.
17. Ybor City State Museum
Learn about Tampa’s colorful history at the Ybor City Museum. This is something you don’t want to pass up! Some will find it just a marvel and the history it provides is like reading a novel, both compelling and educational. Some people have even gotten married here.
18. ZooTampa at Lowry Park
This zoo is home to more than 1300 animals and is known for one of the most beautiful tropical settings in the world. ZooTampa brings together animals and visitors to create an unforgettable connection. There are rides and attractions for all ages and even a roller coaster. It’s a great time for the family.
19. Ballast Point Park
This is one amazing park! Playground for younger kids has a sprinkler and splash pad, a small little restaurant to pick up something to eat and a great pier. There are restrooms, a boat ramp and even a bait shop. For those interested you will find benches here and there with covered picnic areas. Be sure to check out the amazing views of downtown from the pier.
20. Ybor City
Ybor was once the cigar capital of the world. Yes we said it, THE WORLD! Now Ybor City is a thriving community in Tampa and offers plenty to do and see. Many say its like the Vegas strip just smaller. Be prepared to see anything.
21. Florida Cane Distillery
Great place to stop and have a little cheap fun! The Florida Cane Distillery doesn’t charge for tasting so if you like rum, vodka, gin, etc. this is the place to visit. If you are interested in making your own drink you can purchase your very on “cocktail kit.”
22. Tampa Museum of Art
Located downtown Tampa near the Riverwalk this museum offers a great and growing collection. Definitely should be on your to do list. Has rich culture and art and the building itself is amazing.
23. Croc Encounters
Visit the Croc Encounters for your chance to see Nile crocs, salt water crocs, American alligators and even the chance at holding a baby gator. This is a great place for a guided tour where you can also see turtles and snakes.
24. Picnic Island Park
There are just so many things to do! If you are looking for activities this is your place. Frisbee golf, play areas for the kids, a pier for people to fish, a boat ramp, dog beach and picnic areas. If you want there are gazebos that are perfect for a family get together.
25. Davis Island Dog Beach
Great place to mix and mingle with others. People love bringing their dogs and just hanging out. It’s right on the edge of the Davis Island Yacht Club which is a very very pretty spot to go and relax. It’s also gated so your dog can’t just run away and a place to wash you pup before heading back out.
All and all these are our list of 25 Fun Cheap things to do in Tampa Bay. Sure there are a lot more things you can do but really no one will go through a list of 100+ things. We wanted to mix it up while keeping things short.
We will probably work on a long list of things to do in Tampa but only list the names so that you can pick and then do research. For now though we hope you enjoy your time in Tampa doing something fun while not spending a lot of money.
